Hey, I remember breaking my USB C port a while back. I was careless and knocked my tower onto the floor, which damaged the port. From then on, I’ve skipped USB C since I didn’t realize there was another port. I plugged it in, only to find it wasn’t working—probably because of a damaged cable. Since then, I’m experiencing boot issues. The computer lights up and the RGB indicators flash as if it’s ready to start, but the MoBo error lights don’t light up, even though I can’t see any signal on my monitors.

I’ve noticed these work with my work laptop, so I figured they’re fine. Now I’m getting strange behavior. After turning everything off and unplugging the rear IO, I reinserted the keyboard, mouse, and monitor 1. The computer boots up successfully—drivers are updated, I added a second monitor, and it works perfectly. Then I reset it completely, but nothing happens.

I’ve tried resetting the computer, swapping the motherboard from DP to HDMI, replacing the M1 with M2, and even testing different cables. The problem persists. I checked all internal connections to make sure they weren’t damaged, but at the PSU and MoBo ports, I think I broke my motherboard—my cable was just disconnected.

These monitors function perfectly on my work laptop via a docking station. When I use my personal rig without it, I don’t rely on the docking setup, which makes the issue more puzzling.

Any advice? Should I keep troubleshooting parts before swapping the motherboard? Thanks for your help!

Consider repositioning the GPU, as the connection might have been loose during the fall. Check for another PCI slot if the motherboard supports one. Determine if the damaged port on the case is the issue and remove it from the motherboard.

The previous fall was resolved and everything worked well until I used the second USB 3 port (I mistakenly mentioned USB C). I suspect the port itself is damaged, and I removed the cable from it—this triggers a warning about voltage levels and causes it to shut down automatically. Right now I leave it unplugged. The issue started after I connected the second port last week, and it has become unstable. I plan to fully disconnect the power supply and reinstall it tomorrow when I'm calmer. Thanks for your guidance so far.

@bmx6454 shared some useful tips! It seems your main CPU power port is damaged—probably because you accidentally connected the 4-pin CPU and left the 8-pin out. Booting works fine now, but not with the 5500XT installed. You tried using only the 8-pin setup and swapping cables without success. It seems the 4-pin works best. I’m planning to stick with the 4-pin configuration moving forward. I assume my old PCI card will handle it, and I hope games or heavy tasks won’t trigger a shutdown. Need a new motherboard eventually. Thanks again!
