Occasional Power Cut And Restart Problem Issue with intermittent shutdowns and resumes affecting system performance.
Greetings, I'm having a few intermittent problems with my old Lenovo Thinkstation P520. When I use the Power Off button on my OS, sometimes the PC won't shutdown properly and will keep the front I/O lights on and fans on, but there no signal from GPU, SSD, peripherals, and I assume the CPU as well. Sometimes the PC will do the opposite and will wake itself from a full shutdown state the next day with just the front I/O lights and fans on, sometimes the keyboard and mouse is on, but no signal from SSD or GPU. It doesn't boot or have a splashscreen, and the lights on my monitor are not on. While watching a live stream on Youtube, the streamer was having problems with OBS disconnecting and the stream would go down for a few moments. While waiting for it, my PC crashed and I had no signal from the GPU, but everything else was on. This might be a separate issue since the live stream has many problems, such as crashing the browser tab randomly. Each one of these problems require a restart by either holding the power button or switching off the surge strip. BIOS is up to date, S03KT69A released 03/21/2025. It didn't change any Wake-on-Lan settings or any other Wake-up settings because I recently looked and they are still disabled, and it's only been happening a few months after the BIOS was installed. The only thing that did change were Pop OS updates and a recent hardware change to an AMD RX 6700, and Nvidia drivers for my GTX 1070 were purged soon after install. I previously looked into the issue with a web search and came across something related said that a power on and off issue might be a bad CMOS battery. As far as I know, the battery is the original from 2018, but I didn't try replacing the battery with a new one just yet. I didn't go the Lenovo support forums either because I didn't know if it was a simple hardware issue, or a specific Lenovo issue. I also don't know if it's any Linux-related issue, it seems like it would be because that's the only thing that could change power settings. The GPU crashing might be a separate event, however. Let me know your thoughts and thanks for your replies.
