So, long backstory short. I've been an active user of the Insider Program for Windows 10 for quite some time. Upon the RTM/final/Build 10240 release, several functions of Windows simply ceased to function. Things such as Search, Cortana, pinning things to the left-hand-side of the start menu, pinning things to the task bar, saved themes resetting themselves, or simply deleting themselves, closing apps (such as right-click exit Skype (yes, I know, ew skype, but that's one of the perils of neding to communicate with tech incompetence ;P) for example), task manager failing to close programs, task manager failing to operate at all, etc. I've contacted support about it several times, however I always get the same result - a canned "we're working on it" response. Support techs seem to grasp about 5% of my problem, usually that my search function isn't working, latch on to that and tell me it will be fixed, no ETA, no confirmation that it's not an isolated issue, nothing more than "stay tuned for a fix", and proceed to ignore everything else. So, i've taken matters in to my own hands. Here's my interesting problem. I am among the group that is licensed through the insider program, meaning that my old Windows 7 install was formatted, and a fresh install of the W10 insider build was installed on it. Needless to say, I no longer have access to the iso downloads for the insider program, so the "normal" iso was sourced from this link. come to find out, upon attempting to fresh install Windows 10, my primary drive is in MBR format for God knows why. My ISO is burned in GPT. I think you can see where this is headed... so i'll skip directly to my questions - 1. If I were to attempt a fresh install of Windows 10 with the "normal" ISO, what would happen with my licensing? I have my old Windows 7 install disc, however, needless to say, i'd prefer not to have to walk it through W7 to be eligible for my upgrade. I'm not opposed to it, but would prefer not to purchase a license unless needed. 2. Upon re-format and conversion to GPT and successful installation, would a system image restore (to restore files, associate installs, links, etc) cause any complications? 3. Have I made any sense? It's currently 5 AM, and i'm working on less than an hour of sleep in the last two days (which come to think of it, I seem to say rather often on these forums ) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! -Semper

You can't rely on the Windows 10 insider program's product key. The best option is to reinstall Windows 7 again. (I understand it takes a lot of effort. I experienced the same situation too)
