Occasional inability to start Windows system.
I’m experiencing difficulties starting up my Windows system. After assembling everything brand new, it worked perfectly for months. The only changes I’ve made recently are: replaced the original CPU with a 7800X3D, swapped the PSU cables for CableMod accessories, and adjusted the adapters accordingly. At first, everything functioned normally. However, after a few weeks, I began encountering errors that blocked booting (see attached images). These included warnings like “Your PC/Device Needs to be Repaired.” I’ve seen various error codes on the blue screen, such as WDF Violation, IRQL not less or equal, and issues with NTFS, WinLOAD, and system configuration files.
Once I pressed F1 to launch Recovery Mode, I often got stuck on a black screen with specific Q Code messages. Some common codes were 46 (memory initialization) and 70. Occasionally, I could exit Recovery and get back into Windows without further changes. Still, the problem remains unresolved and keeps appearing unpredictably.
When I do manage to boot, the system operates as expected—no runtime problems, stress tests, or overheating issues. I’ve run benchmarks for CPU and GPU performance, but nothing triggered any faults.
Troubleshooting steps I’ve tried:
- Used Startup Repair in Advanced Options and System Restore.
- Reset CMOS and reprogrammed BIOS.
- Reinstalled chipset firmware.
- Performed a clean Windows reinstall.
- Physically re-seated all components.
- Ran memory diagnostics with no errors.
- Checked NVMe drives using Magician software.
- Disabled EXPO profile in BIOS settings.

Additional observations:
- When AMD EXPO is enabled in BIOS, I can boot successfully.
- Recent ASUS boards have reported voltage issues with the new 3D chips, but my hardware still boots and runs well under load.
