Hey, you're using a laptop. I've encountered an issue with noticeable stuttering in certain games. Essentially, the game performs well at 45-60 frames per second (higher if Vsync is off, though some titles still show tearing), but every half-second it seems to speed up and then slow down consistently. The overall experience remains smooth, but the timing feels inconsistent. This problem is more pronounced in GTA V. I'm reinstalling the game now to gather data using Afterburner, and will share the results soon.
System details: Intel i5-8265u (1.6GHz-3.6GHz), Nividia MX150 2GB RAM (likely the slower 10W model), 16GB DDR4 2400MHz SODIMM in both slots, 256GB SATA SSD at 1080p 60Hz display. Running Minecraft with medium settings also experiences this issue despite achieving over 100fps. After checking Afterburner graphs, the GPU usage fluctuates dramatically between high and low states, indicating throttling. The GPU temperature stays around 60°C during normal use, but spikes to 70°C during gaming or intensive tasks, suggesting thermal throttling. I've disabled Windows Defender's Control Flow Guard for specific games and adjusted the GPU timeout setting to 10 seconds, which helped with Star Citizen at a fixed 25fps Ultra. Unfortunately, Afterburner isn't capturing the low FPS drops in other games like Rolling Line. I've also changed some system settings to see if it helps. What can I do?
