Occasional game pauses leading to a crash
I recently assembled a gaming PC from scratch using these specifications: KFA2 GTX 960 4GB reference design, AMD FX6300 CPU, EVGA 500W white 80 Plus PSU, WD 1TB blue SSD, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, one Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz RAM. The issue arises when playing games like Skyrim (ultra settings) or Garry's Mod at maximum settings every few seconds—small stutters and occasional crashes occur. However, at full resolution with highest settings, everything runs smoothly without lag. Could a more powerful power supply help resolve this?
Consider executing monitoring tools like HWMonitor and GPU-z in the background during gameplay. This helps identify potential bottlenecks, such as a consistently high CPU usage or maximum RAM consumption while playing. You can also use these tools to track the video card and CPU temperatures and clocks, which aids in detecting thermal throttling.
Your processor is not powerful enough for demanding games. Consider using a different CPU-intensive title. Games that don’t cause issues are usually older or more focused on graphics rather than processing power.
