8 months back I set up my setup: i7 12700KF Asus prime z690p D4 32gb 3600mhz DDR4 RX 6950XT 2 x 1tb m.2 drives 1200w bequiet PSU Windows 10 Home 64 (new install to fix the problem, thinking maybe Windows 11 was just a joke). Over the last two months my machine freezes and stops working at all. It happens no matter what I do—browsing, watching videos, relaxing on the desktop. When it freezes, the screen stays on but the monitor loses the signal. Switching inputs fixes it temporarily, then the display stops working. The PC stays on fans and lights even when frozen. When I watch a video it makes buzzing in my speakers. Using the webcam at the time keeps its light on. During freezes both the PC lights and fans stay on. What I tried: updated drivers with DDU, installed an older driver before the problem, re-seated GPU and cables, checked temps via HWINFO, changed display and cables to direct monitor, reinstalled Windows from 11 to 10, disconnected everything except peripherals, but the issue persists. Only by force shutting it down and rebooting can I get it running again. The event viewer shows no errors (I accept that). Freezes seem random, happening a few times an hour. Please help. This is my first post on the forum—sorry if I missed etiquette. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply! I will give it ago, was trying to put it off as i really hate taking off and putting the NHD15 back on its so cumbersome. Only issue is troubleshooting then takes a long time, because theres nothing I can do to initiate a freeze it, its just a watch and wait.
After three consecutive freezes on Discord, I replaced the CPU, RAM, and relocated the GPU to the second 16x slot with a support bracket to prevent sag damage from heavy cards. I also ran Heaven Benchmark and AIDA64 for an hour to stress-test the system, which performed without issues. Still, this isn’t the first time it happens. It’s been about an hour since then and I haven’t seen any freezes, though I’m not optimistic because even light tasks seem to trigger it. It’s possible I’m overworking the system, but I’m not sure what’s causing it.
Changed the BIOS settings but it didn’t work. Then I took all devices off the back of my motherboard and connected my mouse and keyboard through the front panel headers. This improved things, though the freezing still happens occasionally—once or twice a day. It hasn’t completely stopped yet.
