motherboard B760M, CPU i5-12400F, GPU RX6600Xt, RAM 2x8GB (Kingston & Transcend, 2666MHz and 3200MHz), PSU Deepcool DN500 (500W), SSD Patriot P300 (512GB). All components are new except the GPU, RAM, and PSU, which are nearly 4 years old. I believe the PSU might be contributing to the problem. Thank you for your assistance!
The sound you're experiencing resembles Coilwhine, but it's not harmful. It seems your PSU could be the root cause. Someone who had the same issue two weeks ago reported their GPU operating at half its power draw. They mentioned a faulty NOX power supply, and replacing it resolved the problem. Your current PSU appears to be defective—consider swapping it out right away.
Thanks for the response. It seems switching your PSU might be necessary even if it has enough power for your components. I’m wondering if replacing it will help with coil whine or just the overall power consumption. Regarding the Be Quiet BN294 pure power 600W, it’s within your budget and could be a good option.
It could potentially resolve the problem. I can't provide a 100% certainty since I can't test the system directly. However, as noted, your existing PSU is in a poor condition and should be replaced regardless. It may slightly reduce the coilwhine, as faulty power supplies can contribute to it. Still unlikely to eliminate it completely. The Be Quiet Pure Power 11 600w is a solid choice and a worthwhile investment.
Always use proper tools such as a multimeter or inline PSU tester. PSUs can be quite risky to handle improperly.
Join the discussions! The setup isn't perfect, but starting with HWInfo and/or HWMonitor is a good approach. Check the 3V and 12V displays for readings, and see if the GPU matches what's available. If it shows "stable power," it suggests the PSU might be the issue. Make sure those voltage values stay within spec during use.
