The game combines Company of Heroes with Blitzkrieg mod. The BK mod increases unit numbers, adds explosion effects, and introduces many CPU-heavy operations, making it quite demanding on the processor. It's fascinating how lag begins at around 57fps, which isn't typical video card lag—it appears to be a CPU stutter issue.
As shown in the first video, early gameplay is smooth with few units on the field. However, as more units appear, the performance drops noticeably. You can observe that the frame rate stays high (50+), and without lag it reaches 57+ fps. This suggests the lag isn't due to video card limitations, but rather CPU usage—about 20% of the GPU is utilized, while the CPU handles around 50%. This is likely because of the game's frequent frame rate drops.

Why did I mention this in the Overclocking section? On the lag video, the CPU runs at 3.5 GHz without turbo boost enabled. When I increased it to 4.7Ghz/1.3V, I noticed a smoother experience with many units on the field—games running at 40-50% smoother.
But it's still not perfect; I still don’t achieve buttery smooth gameplay from the start. My question is: are there other options besides overclocking to improve CPU speed or other methods so I can enjoy smooth gameplay throughout? Or do I really need a 6GHz CPU for this mod? Someone suggested it might be due to insufficient RAM, but I’m confused—when I overclock the CPU, performance improves, yet it’s unrelated to RAM. Also, only 4GB is used out of 8GB. What happened with the rest?
Your OC performs exceptionally well.
There doesn’t seem to be a chance to enhance it further.
You could try scanning for malware.
Use the free edition of Malwarebytes.
How much space is on your SSD? 120gb fills up quickly.
If it reaches about 90%, consider upgrading to a bigger drive.
There might be sections of the game that require quick access from a fast drive.

I can't fix anything, at 4.8 I get BSOD.
Clean windows install, no antivirus at all, nothing to worry about.
Once I set up Windows on the SSD, the next step I took was the game+mod, which was almost empty. Now it's a bit more filled, but lag was still there even with an empty SSD. It's still the same.
Same happens if I run the game from the HDD—whether it's SSD or HDD, I expect more lag because the HDD is slower.
I believe you've reached your limit.
The fastest CPU currently available would likely be the i5-6600K with an OC in the 4.8 range.
This could offer a better balance between higher clock speeds and efficient instruction processing.
It doesn't seem particularly worthwhile to me.
Later this year, Kaby Lake is expected to arrive, which is rumored to be an improvement, but there are only whispers about it.
Maybe it's just a weak mod?
No, the slowdown happens when there are more players or activity on the field. In 4v4 it's the worst, while 1v1 and 2v2 run smoothly. On 3v3 it's about 80% of the time smooth with OC, but without it, it slows down significantly. It seems to depend on resources. I need more power!
I believe you're at your limit. The fastest CPU on the market right now would likely be the i5-6600K with an OC between 4.8 and 4.9. That could offer a bit more performance without sacrificing efficiency. It doesn't seem like a good investment to me. Later this year, Kaby Lake is expected to arrive, which is rumored to be an upgrade, but nothing confirmed yet. Why not the i7-6700K?
