Hello everyone! I'm just starting out but didn't find much info, so I'm reaching out for advice. I tried overclocking my CPU but it keeps crashing often, so I think I might be doing something wrong. Could anyone assist me with proper OC settings? My system includes: i5-9600K CPU, Arctic Freezer 34, eSports DUO MB, AS Rock Z390 Phantom Gaming, 2x CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX DIMM kits at 16GB, 3000MHz XMP 2.0, and a KINGSTON NV1 M.2-2280 PCIe NVMe SSD with 500GB capacity.

OCing demands significant effort, study, and perseverance. Achieving a complete overview without additional details will be extremely challenging. Most recommend consulting forum discussions on overclocking your CPU and matching it with your specific motherboard (or at least a compatible one). Learn the methods for boosting performance, conduct tests, adjust voltages to ensure stability, monitor temperatures and repeat the process until speeds meet your goals while maintaining safe temperatures and voltage levels. Understanding Vdroop is crucial—some degree of it is beneficial. A modest amount of Vdroop can be helpful. Full stability at lower voltages might take a week or more. If your system crashes during OC but not at default speeds, the issue likely lies in your settings—possibly excessive GHz, insufficient voltage, or overheating (or all three). Adjustments to VCCIO or system agent voltages may also be necessary. Alternatively, if your CPU struggles to reach XMP speeds with high core clocks, tweaks to VCCIO or agent settings might be required. What RAM speed do you have? Is XMP enabled? Modern OC can seem straightforward thanks to tutorials and videos, but the reality is more complex. It requires patience and thorough learning. Thanks for the update, it's running at 3000Mhz with XMP 2.0 enabled. Last night I lowered the CPU and RAM settings to 4.7 and 2800, and it seems to work fine now—still no crashes, though I did notice some occasional freezes on the screen. I wasn’t sure if that was due to overloading at that time.

Consider resetting CMOS, turning on XMP, and then restarting to test with OC settings for your CPU. This will bring you back to the basics and help identify the exact cause of crashes.

Overclocking involves many factors—resetting defaults, using XMP profiles, and understanding which settings need tweaking. A 3000mhz frequency is generally manageable for CPUs, so it should work at that speed if you fine-tune the CPU overclock and voltages. Be sure to stress test with tools like AIDA64 for a minimum of 10 hours.
