When I overclock my msi r9 280, it reaches over 105 degrees, but removing the side panel keeps it under 85... is it fine to skip the panel during games or should I replace the case?

You may leave the side panel on, but it's suggested to add a front intake fan and an exhaust fan for any overclocking.

It's fine to omit the side panel, mine hasn't been working for a long time because I often work inside, especially with the internal drives...

Seems like you're running a bit behind on the party. If you're still looking for something, let me know which case you're interested in and what fans are involved.
