I wondered if it's possible to set up a Windows 7 system on a budget HP laptop without using an installation disc. I haven’t found a solution yet, so I thought I’d check in! Let me know! Thanks, Matt.

On an HP laptop that hasn't been reinstalled, you might be able to run HP's software for a clean OS update. If not, do you have the operating system key stored on the device? With that key, you can perform a fresh Windows installation by downloading a .ISO file from Microsoft's site.

It has a recovery drive partition. Yeah, it has an OEM product key in the system properties. Not sure if has that kind of software but I'll give it a look.

Boot menu appears at startup? Or is it available in Windows? When trying to start, it only displays the DVD drive and a BIOS diagnostic screen.

I discovered a repair method that can restore the computer to its original factory settings. That sounds promising. Appreciate the assistance!

The simplest method is using a bootable Ubuntu USB. Format it via the command line or a tool like gparted, and you can also remove the recovery partition.
