I reviewed your situation. You installed W10 10240 without asking for a key and activated it immediately. The system shows no expiration date and confirms permanent activation. Running slmgr /xpr and slmgr /dlv both indicate a valid license with the correct Volume:MAK key. There’s no watermark, and the configuration lists "Windows 10 Pro" as activated. It appears you have a retail Windows 10 license that will update to the latest version on the 29th. You’re not using a trial or insider version. Based on this, it seems safe to proceed with installation on your main SSD. Consider replacing the existing Windows installation if needed, and plan for a clean install after the update.

It's likely to turn off once it's released

I would really wait until July 29th, even though 10240 is RTM. Microsoft has paused Insider activations temporarily. http://www.winbeta.org/news/all-pre-rele...29th-nears

Why? I'm in the same case as many people on reddit that upgrade from legit Win7-8.1 to Win10 10240 and we're getting this activation I talked with Microsoft Support and they don't seem to know...

I didn't reference any inside information. The Windows 10 setup never requested my Insider account.

Great! Are you sure about maintaining the activation while performing a clean installation on W10, and would you like to use a different drive for the installation?
