Hey there, I bought a new laptop a while back and swapped out the old HDD for an SSD. That meant I needed a fresh operating system, so I went with Windows 7 because it was the most affordable choice then. Now I discovered I can't connect to my school's WiFi without Windows 10—it's really important. I already have the old HDD running Windows 10, but I'm stuck. Can I transfer the license from that HDD to the SSD? Plus, I also have Microsoft Office 2010 on the SSD, so I don’t want to lose it either. Short version: I swapped HDD for SSD, installed Windows 7, need Windows 10 for WiFi, and can I get the key off the old drive? Thanks in advance!

When the system boots from the hard drive, you can turn off Windows and recover the product key via this guide.

I believe the problem lies in the networking setup. It seems you shouldn't face issues connecting to WiFi with versions 7 or 10.

You only needed to set up Windows 10 on the SSD since the license codes are built into the BIOS. No need to buy a new operating system key.
