Hello, I'm observing a curious trend after removing the delidding from my Intel Core i7 8086K. Previously, its all-core turbo ran at 4,3 GHz with only 95 Watts drawing power. Now, when I run Cinebench R20, it consumes around 115 Watts while the turbo reaches 4,6 GHz. It's odd since I didn't adjust the overclocking settings. My temperatures have climbed to a maximum of 50 °C during full load, but still, this is quite unexpected...

No, the lower temperatures likely prevented overheating rather than causing an overclock.

The temperatures before the delay were likely low, possibly due to throttling. Mobo may have had optimizations turned on by default, but performance dropped below 4.6 cores because of heat issues.

I set up my geothermal loop for 2700X on all auto modes, increased core frequency to 4300mhz at idle. It was surprising at first. The frequency stayed the same until I adjusted the EDC power limit using Ryzen Master.

After applying delid, all-core turbo reached 4.6 GHz and temperatures dropped to 50 °C at peak. I'm using an air cooler; it's a big improvement, though still just an air solution.

Typical default adjustments for MBOO boards often come from standard settings. A K chip on a Z board doesn’t always mean pure stock—overclocking can work well, as most chips tend to run around 5.2 all-core. It might be worth trying an overclock.

Perhaps in a few years it will be useful and I haven’t encountered any issues with this CPU in real-world testing, even at standard clock speeds. I purchased one from Amazon in 2018 for 379 USD, which was reasonable at the time.
