My old computer is from around 2013... it was built with basic specs, not for stability. It had a H61 chipset board and a Pentium G2010 processor—enough for the time. I ran two OSes: first Windows 7, then after three years I switched to Windows 8.1 in 2018, which didn’t look great. Over time, strange issues started: the screen, CPU, and everything would freeze all at once. The display would show only red, white, or blue, and the whole system would become unresponsive, even when idle. It was really frustrating. A few months ago, a tech guy helped me replace the 8.1 with Windows 7, which fixed the freezing and restored stability. Even though I now have an i5 10600K, I still prefer a reliable old Windows 7 setup because it’s proven to work better than newer systems.
Windows 7 offers more stability compared to Windows 10, though it's an older operating system. Consider setting up Linux Mint as a solid alternative. Windows 10 has experienced several significant issues, such as the recent update that wiped all your data, and it still has some performance problems. It tends to run sluggishly on older or low-end hardware due to Microsoft’s bloatware. Overall, Windows 7 remains preferable to Windows 10 except for the fact that it no longer receives updates unless you opt for paid extended security support (as of 2023) or use a workaround like EULA bypass to get free updates. For Linux, Mint is a reliable choice for beginners. If you need Windows compatibility, Qubes OS is an option but requires at least 6GB RAM and preferably 16GB, with a 4-core CPU being the minimum for smooth operation.
