After upgrading to Windows 11, I experienced intermittent monitor flickering and burn-in problems. The issue appears randomly, mainly affecting gray areas on my Dell U2722D monitor. In bright, neutral zones it’s sometimes clear a YouTube video remains visible after restarting. I’ve tried several solutions: HDMI and DisplayPort both caused the same problem—HDMI leads to blackouts lasting seconds every few hours. Switching cables didn’t help. Removing and reinserting the GPU didn’t resolve it. Updating Windows, drivers, and the monitor’s driver worked temporarily. Adjusting refresh rates, resolutions, and even performing a BIOS update helped somewhat. The flickering seems to lessen as I use the PC longer, though it returns after some time. My hardware includes a GTX 1070 Ryzen 7 5800X with 32GB DDR4 RAM, Corsair RM750X 750W PSU, and Windows 11. The video of the issue was recorded (Chrome or YouTube not open). This behavior hasn’t happened on my Windows 10 system, but I’m unsure if it’s an OS-level concern.
I found the model on Dell’s website and it’s a plasma, CRT or OLED monitor. This isn’t any of those older technologies. It seems to be a quantum dot LCD. From what I understand, quantum dot displays don’t typically burn in. The appearance might be misleading. If rolling back to Windows 10 fixes the issue, it could be related to how Windows handled wear leveling between versions. It might be a Dell-specific feature that didn’t carry over to Windows 11.
Hey @Linus_, thanks for the update. I'm facing the same issue with my two identical U2722D monitors. Dell gave me a new one, but the flickering still occurs—grey areas appearing about once a week for a few hours before it stops. It happens on both Windows 10 and 11. Interestingly, my U2722DE with Ethernet and USB-C input hasn't had this problem at all. Have you come across any solutions?
