Hey there! I've been dealing with some strange POST issues on my PC for a while now. It started one morning when I tried to turn it on and it wouldn't boot at all. I turned it off and back on, and then it worked just fine. But later that day, it refused to POST no matter how many times I reset it. I checked the error lights and found a RAM problem. After removing and reinserting all the RAM sticks, it finally booted up properly.
The issue has kept coming up since then. Sometimes it complains about the GPU, other times about the RAM. Usually, it POSTs after a few cycles, but sometimes I have to do that RAM reseating process. When the PC is running, there are no blue screens or major problems, which suggests my RAM or GPU might be okay. Could there be a problem with the motherboard? I've tried updating the BIOS, but it didn't help.
Here are my specs for reference:
CPU: Intel Core i9-12900KF
Motherboard: ROG STRIX Z690-A
GPU: Asus STRIX GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32GB (4x 8GB) DDR4-3200
PSU: Corsair AX1000 80+ Titanium
Hi, just a note about the BIOS update not giving the expected outcome yet. Try resetting the CMOS and share the outcomes. I agree with DaleH that the PSU could be the root cause as well. Make sure all power connections, motherboard drives, SATA cables are secure, and re-seat the GPU and RAM firmly. (These are simple, traditional steps you’re familiar with.) It’s possible there’s an issue with the motherboard itself. Please post your findings. I’m hoping this resolves the problem so you can enjoy your PC’s performance again.
Your described symptoms could indicate an issue with the PSU. The outcome relies heavily on the PSU's performance. Consider borrowing one if possible, to rule it out as the cause.
