I encountered an unusual situation. I searched online but didn’t find any solutions for this exact problem. After switching to a new case, everything seemed normal until I forgot to apply thermal paste on the CPU. I removed the AIO and used liquid metal instead, then reinstalled it. When I restarted, the CPU reached extremely high temperatures—95°C. I tried applying Corsair thermal paste but the issue persisted, with overheating even when the room is cool. It’s confusing; could you share more details about your setup?

Could the pump be dead on your AIO? That might account for the TIM not affecting temperatures and it consistently reaching 95°C. Make sure the mounting pressure is adequate. Also, check if your AIO is connected to a pump header—some non-pump headers might lack sufficient power for the pump.

The pump doesn't seem to be the problem since I'm running the bios, and the AIO pump speed stays in the bottom left. When the CPU warms up to 80, fans speed up to cool it down to 65, then repeat. Now it's consistently at 80°C. After swapping out my CPU, the same pattern appears again. It's puzzling why this keeps happening.

It might relate to fan curves in the header where the fans connect. If the header shows a hockey stick shape between 80-85°C, that could be worth checking and modifying.

Could you confirm if air might be stuck at the pump's top? Where is your radiator positioned?

@BiotechBen adjusted the fan curve overnight, but the CPU continues to overheat rapidly after startup, keeping the fans running near full capacity. @Jorgemeister this seems very likely. I'm using an AIO in a Lian Li 011D case with top-mounted valves. It's hard to describe, but I'll share a photo soon. I also have another AIO I just purchased and plan to test it out. Updates coming. Thanks both of you.

They appreciated the support and the help they received. It looks like the issue was mainly with the AIO, though I wasn't sure if it was an air bubble or another problem. Swapping it down really lowered my temps a lot. Thanks for the assistance! In the meantime, I used my thermal throttling CPU to make the decision to upgrade my CPU, motherboard, and AIO so my girlfriend wouldn’t get upset—definitely a mixed outcome.

What CPU and AI chip did you receive? I'm curious since I have a 5800X paired with Coolermaster ML240L v2. Even though the processor doesn't usually reach 72-75°C during games, it consistently hits around 92°C according to Cinebench R23, which feels quite high for me.

I’m completely fine with that upgrade. I moved from a Ryzen 7 3700x to the Ryzen 7 5800x, swapped my Corsair 240mm AIO for the Kraken Z73 RGB (360mm). I did some testing and played games last night without exceeding 87°C. That was mostly when I pushed it hard. I don’t play super demanding titles, but I ran Halo Infinite and it ran smoothly—averaging around 78°C, never hitting 84°C. Even with a less intense game like WC3, it stayed well below 80°C, hovering between 67-74°C.

I just wanted to check how my temps stack up. Have you tried running Cinebench R23? That’s where I reached a steady 92°C throughout the whole test. Regarding games, RDR2 pushes me down to 70-80, while lighter titles like Rocket League keep it around 60.
