Also consider using compressed air into air intakes, as this can prevent dust from building up in the airways.
CPU is throttling even though temperatures are normal. I suspect this could be linked to power plans—setting a low minimum power state and a high processor state below 100%. It mostly works now, though occasional stutters remain. I plan to clean the laptop tomorrow, but these temps might not improve it much.
Clean your laptop thoroughly. I'll check if anyone else can help review your problem, because I don't understand why your CPU, with a Tjmax of 95°C, is experiencing thermal throttling at 68°C (likely even before that). It should start throttling at 80°C and higher.
I was also testing it in other games, for instance in Apex where I often run the game at 83 fps during BR because the CPU slows down to around 1GHz. This isn't normal since I previously played it smoothly with a stable fps of 165 a few weeks ago. I won't accept such performance on a laptop I bought for $4,000 just three months ago—it clearly something is wrong.
I don't understand how Ryzen cpus handle this, but on Intel it's power throttling. It could be a bad sensor or the power adapter is faulty. You might need to return the laptop—check Asus's guidelines first.
I thought the power brick might be faulty since I noticed better performance when it was on battery, but now it doesn’t seem to matter. It could be related to incorrect power settings. Setting it to 100% whether plugged in or not, at both minimum and maximum processor states, didn’t help. The fan speed also didn’t increase during the game, though it did when I switched to desktop mode.
Ok I found something, at times, my CPU will throttle up when nothing graphically intense is happening, so for example I'm in a room in a game. However, when I look into the distance or rapidly move around and change locations, the CPU will throttle down, and so will the voltage.
So for instance, from 3594MHz frequency and 1385mV voltage, it will drop to 1680MHz, 1020mV.
At the same time, the GPU frequency also change drastically, from 1125MHz GPU frequency and 668mV, it will rise to 1920MHz, 1081mV.
When the GPU frequency is lower and CPU is higher, the game runs absolutely perfect, but whenever the GPU gets more voltage the CPU instantly throttles and the game starts to drop FPS.
Insufficient voltage?
