The spec mentions recording the video to the SSD while the game runs on the hard drive (CS:GO), not through streaming.

it doesn't really matter what format you use, mate—it won't drop your FPS much. Go all out with 1080p if you want. Just be sure to switch the file type, since they often handle it differently, like converting from MKV to MP4.

Prepare your setup by installing the software. Once ready, run it and follow the instructions to upload the image. Adjust the clips to match the saved settings in the General tab—typically minutes of gameplay (similar to Shadowplay for AMD GPUs). The Game Replay feature will automatically store your session. The final output requires about 1GB of storage space, containing an unedited/raw file that resembles the specified image.

I attempted to run Raptor... but encountered blue screens everywhere.

It works really well for me. I usually shrink the files using Handbrake (compression tool, search it). These files often become large at these levels. You can simply copy his recording settings and then adjust resolution or frame rate as needed.

Sure, OBS also includes a replay buffer function. I rely on it regularly rather than using inferior Shadowplay.

I've found a way to capture smooth gameplay using OBS with frame rates that work well. Switching to shadowplay at 1080p60 made the difference, and it runs seamlessly without skips. Recording at higher resolutions isn't necessary now—it's all about the right settings.

Consider lowering the CPU preset to something faster like veryfast or ultrafast. Follow the settings shown in the video. My machine has a 4790K, yet I still stick with "Ultrafast." I barely register any hit when starting recording; the biggest jump I've noticed is moving from 600FPS to 500FPS in CS, though that's probably too much for the frame rate—just remind yourself to cap it.
