Hey everyone, I’ve got a rather odd issue now. I recently converted my old system into a living room sleeper setup. It’s a Ryzen 3900x with a Gigabyte 2070 Biostar B550T, paired with a Fractal Node 202 and a 92mm Noctua shuriken fan (switched from a regular one). I limited the CPU to 65 watts instead of its full 105W in the BIOS to manage heat. It started up fine—just a bit warm overall, but it worked. The only odd thing was a strange error popping up. After installing a game, I noticed the system stayed in BIOS without me noticing. It reset and stuck there. I couldn’t find any drive listed in BIOS, so I powered it down. After cooling off for about half a day, it booted back into Windows. I thought maybe the heat was too high, especially since the shuriken points toward the motherboard and all the heat seems to concentrate there. It probably turned into a mini-heater, but I didn’t measure the temps closely. When I tried to run a Windows update during shutdown, the same problem returned. I rebuilt it again, this time using a better case—Coolermaster NR200P and a QuietPure Pure Rock 2. Now the CPU stays around 40-50°C, maybe up to 70 under load, which is acceptable. NVMe performance is about 30°C, rising to around 40°C later. I also ran into the same issue where the MP600 disappeared from BIOS during a restart. It’s possible heat damage might have affected it. I’m not sure if it’s the motherboard or the NVMe drive. What steps would you suggest for further troubleshooting? Also, because of space constraints, I had to remove the VRM heatsink. If the cooler is blowing away from them, maybe it’s okay. Should I consider replacing it with a smaller one, or is that necessary?
If the maker adds VRM heatsinks, they likely require them, though this shouldn't damage your SSD. I’d test the disk in a different machine to determine if the issue lies with the motherboard or the drive. Look for additional NVMe ports on the board and check for any BIOS updates available.
