NVLDDMKM issues emerged due to unpredictability and continue changing
Hey there! Thanks for checking in. Let's talk about the issues you're experiencing. The problem seems consistent across different situations. I play a game, and it suddenly freezes or crashes—audio plays but visuals stop. My display driver gets reset, which can bring the whole game to a halt, even freezing my computer completely.
At first, my system was a 2080 TI Windows 10 Home. Games would crash, and only the event view displayed a specific error message. The description for Event ID 0 from the source I checked isn’t available. It might mean the issue is caused by a missing component or a corrupted installation. You could try reinstalling or repairing that part on your machine. If it happened on another device, make sure the event data was saved with it.
I cleaned up Windows completely and reinstalled it using tools like OBS or f.lux. After that, the error changed. The computer rebooted after a bug check (0x00000116). A dump file was created, but it didn’t help much. I ran Memtest86 and found one failure on a different drive, but the problem still occurred in other tests.
I installed Windows twice—once with a disc and once manually from the manufacturer’s site. Now, even with a clean install and manual drivers, it keeps crashing. I tried various fixes: running diagnostics, changing RAM type, disabling hardware acceleration, adjusting power settings, and updating BIOS. Still, the crashes happen.
Some things that helped:
- Ran diagnostics multiple times
- Reinstalled Windows from a clean source
- Used a different RAM stick in safe mode
- Adjusted graphics settings (disabled auto, set XMP off)
But it still doesn’t work reliably. The error logs show strange graphics exceptions and repeated crashes. It feels like the GPU might be failing, but I’m not sure yet. What do you think? Any clues about the exact error message or timing?
Sadge, my initial thought was hopeful because the issue appeared differently after driver changes:x I’ve also experienced this before. Spoiler alert—the timer backgrounds and other visuals are normal x) The random failures during memtest86 seem unrelated? Or could it be due to bad drivers? For example, I don’t have any nvlddmkm.dll in my system32/drivers folder at all—it’s hidden deep in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\n. Tomorrow I might switch to the second GPU slot; new parts are coming for a full rebuild, but I still aim to keep what works.
It failed once more, this time without artifacts. I set up a completely new PC from scratch, including fresh hard drives. I also installed a surge protector. It crashed with EventID14 on nvlddmkm.dll again in just two seconds by launching Steam and playing Vid autoplay /: @Vishera
She plans to handle that later. I’ll also update my bios if there’s an update, especially after installing a 4090 and checking if the new mainboard is current. Before that, I’ve got a surge protector and a two PC streaming setup ready. I tested them alone without a capture card, and everything works fine on my usual PC—no artifacts. Maybe the surge protector is the issue?
In case of power spikes in your location, a UPS might be necessary too.
