Nvidia drivers installation fails. Unable to proceed.
Processor 12th Gen Intel® Core i7-12700KF running at 3.60 GHz with 16.0 GB RAM (15.9 GB available). System is 64-bit, uses Windows 10 Home 22H2, built with Windows 10 version 19045.4046. I interrupted the update but used a backup install on another drive. After two days it worked. I proceeded to upgrade the Nvidia drivers. This was based on YouTube guides, though they might be incorrect. I held Shift, selected the Windows logo, powered off, restarted, then went to Safe Mode. In Safe Mode 4, I ran DDU 18.0.7.3, selected GPU, cleaned and restarted, and rebooted back to the updated drivers. The installation failed multiple times—first with drivers 551.61, then 546.29, and again after cloning. I reused the last driver but still faced problems. If internet was slow, I’d have tried a fresh install then. I’m not sure if anyone else has encountered this issue. If I hadn’t had a very slow connection until my fiber arrives next month, I’d have gone with a clean install. Sometimes people complain about drivers not working, so maybe it’s just me. Thanks ahead! Among all the things I could learn when retiring, choosing PCs was probably not on the list... Shark wrestling would’ve been better and less stressful.
Start DDU in safe mode. You'll be asked when it launches. Once the PC is in safe mode, open the options menu in DDU. Choose to prevent Windows Update from installing drivers. Then select clean and shutdown if you're installing a new GPU. Wait until the PC has powered off completely. Disconnect all monitor cables except the main one. Power up the computer. Set up Nvidia drivers. You might want to try this driver version: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/dri...ts/216464/
Reply to the link you shared is causing major issues with the browser. Attempting to download on another machine didn’t help. Everything seems off. Sneaker net wins. I moved the file from my laptop and used DDU safe mode, but the same problem persists. A fresh install isn’t possible right now—it would take a month even with fast internet, and updates, files, mods, and accounts are all affected. I’d rather lose everything than risk it. Also, I encountered an error logging into the NVIDIA support site; it’s definitely a Windows update issue. My last backup is outdated, so I’m considering starting over. (I understand regular backups... but better safe.) Edited March 1, 2024 by OCAID – New info
Resolved the issue by disconnecting the internet. It seems Windows attempted an installation step during setup, which might have caused problems. Testing without a network connection didn’t trigger any errors.
