I set up Ubuntu 20.04 on my new storage while 16.04 remained on the other drive. Because I prefer a custom configuration, I had to manually adjust the xcofig file to turn on certain features. The change in version altered the layout of xconfig, making "Option Coolbits 12" unusable. It now freezes the system completely, requiring the entire config file to be removed from tty1. Could anyone with Coolbits 12 (handling fan control and clock offsetting) take a screenshot of their xconfig so I can add it to my setup? Thanks.

My setup includes the fourth setting for handling overvoltage, and all functions are operating correctly. Reminder, I'm using driver 450.57.

I'm not sure about the previous action, but which ones are related to xconfig?

The correct file is located at /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf and update the specified section within /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf. The device identifier should be set to "Nvidia Card", driver to "nvidia", vendor name "NVIDIA Corporation", with options enabled for "NoLogo" (1) and "Coolbits" (12). The existing xorg.conf file is largely outdated, but I’m unsure if NVIDIA has updated it, so using their control panel remains a possibility.

I opened the "generate xconfig file" in the driver and received this output. It differs significantly from my driver's 418 configuration. I plan to swap in the modified version. # nvidia-settings: X config file created by nvidia-settings # nvidia-settings: version 440.82 Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout0" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" Choice "Xinerama" 0 EndSection Section "Files" EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "glx" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # created from default Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Choice "Protocol" "auto" Choice "Device" "/dev/psaux" Choice "Emulate3Buttons" "no" Choice "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # created from default Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "P102-100" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Device0" DefaultDepth 24 Choice "UseDisplayDevice" "none" SubSection "Display" Virtual 1920 1080 Depth 24 EndSubSection

It seems you're stuck in a terminal and need help beyond reinstalling the OS. Let me know what you're trying to achieve!

You're asking about USB storage and terminal access, plus how to enable CoolBits. It sounds like you're trying to set up a system with X11 support and possibly some custom configurations. Let me break this down.

The issue involves GWE needing CoolBits, and I'm using it on a 16.04 drive.

@Nayr438 The xconfig change broke my entire ubuntu install. again. there is no such directory. the xconfig before changing it to what was suggested was created by nvidia settings. it wasn't there before. this directory you speak of. theres no such thing otherwise. wouldn't i need the rest of it? its missing a lot of info. coolbits can't be added to nothing. an xconfig has much more info. the original screen shot of this post was the"working" no coolbits directory of x11.
