I've recently switched from a Ryzen 3 1300X to a Ryzen 7 5800X. Since then, my PC has become quite unstable. I can't run basic tests like User Benchmark smoothly. It often freezes during heavy games such as Rust or FIFA 23. At first, I assumed the CPU was overheating because I was using a standard AMD Wraith cooler. After upgrading to an Arctic Freezer 34 Esportsduo, the issue persisted. Someone I know couldn<|pad|> to identify the problem, but it was unclear. While searching for a solution, my SSD got corrupted, which might be relevant. I usually experience freezes while browsing menus in FIFA 23 or trying to open packs. Around 10-15 minutes into playing Rust, the game sometimes crashes right after launch. When I run User Benchmark, it freezes at the "Gravity" GPU test. I’ve tried several fixes: cleaned drives, reinstalled Windows, used DDU to wipe drivers, removed RAM and reinserted it, cleaned GPU fans, and reinstalled the GPU. My specs are: Motherboard PRIME A320M-K, CPU Ryzen 7 5800X, Nvidia GTX 1070, Sandisk 500GB SSD (issues soon after testing), Toshiba 500GB HDD, 16GB RAM, Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000, 600W 80+ White PSU. Recently, freezing episodes are less frequent, but games like FIFA 23 still crash in menus. I’ve used FurMark to test the GPU, managing around 15,000 frames before closing. User Benchmark works sometimes (see https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/58507058) but often freezes at the "Gravity" section. I’ve updated drivers, reformatted the HDD, and installed a fresh Windows. Others suggest possible causes: CPU, motherboard, GPU, PSU, or RAM issues. Who can help pinpoint the real problem?
I needed to upgrade my BIOS to the latest release so the motherboard could communicate properly with the CPU. The older motherboard required this update to function correctly.
I refreshed my profile with the latest update 28/04/2022, believing it would be the final version for my motherboard. I haven’t used Memtest86 yet; I plan to install it but from what I’ve learned, it could take 2-3 hours. Additionally, the boot SSD is no longer working—it crashed and can’t be fixed. I’ve tried about four different formats, but nothing worked. So I replaced it and wiped the HDD, then installed Windows on the new drive.
It looks like the problem has improved but remains unresolved. The Windows installation appears to be running on a healthy hard drive most of the time. Previously, frequent issues like freezing or poor performance were usually due to memory problems or failing storage devices. You might want to use CrystalDiskInfo or a similar tool to verify the drive's condition.
I sometimes have opportunities to test performance, but intense games still crash and drivers complain. Livestreams also fail, freezing audio for a few seconds. I plan to use CrystalDiskInfo to inspect the hard drive before running Memtest86 today.
