I've assembled a new system using an AMD Ryzen 3700X. Until now, I've kept the BIOS settings at their default and only adjusted XMP and fan curves slightly. Performance-wise, after running benchmarks, my Kraken X63 AIO consistently stays in the mid-high 60s during full synthetic workloads. I'm curious about turning on PBO and what improvements it might bring. I've read that PBO can raise voltage beyond 1.4V, which seems risky for CPU health, and some claim the benefits don't justify the potential downsides. My goal is to squeeze extra speed without sacrificing longevity or stability. I spend 8-10 hours daily on the PC and aim for at least three to four years before a replacement upgrade. Additionally, enabling PBO would void my warranty. What advice do you have?

Attempt it and find out how much extra speed you gain compared to the extra power usage or heat generated. If it makes sense for you, stick with it. Not every chip will see big improvements from PBO, so keep your expectations realistic. Just like with other overclocking attempts, doing it voids your warranty in theory. But if you ever have to return the chip to AMD, don’t mention it was overclocked—just file a new ticket later.

The level of degradation PBO creates is extremely small, so it's not a big concern. You mentioned your cooler can manage the CPU as it is; PBO mainly raises the temperature and power limits slightly, allowing it to run a bit hotter for a longer time. As long as the cooler can handle that extra heat, enabling it makes sense. No, PBO doesn't force the CPU to run at 1.4v—it just increases the built-in safety thresholds without changing the voltage. This is how Zen 2 works correctly. The 1.4v boost happens naturally when the CPU is handling single-threaded tasks, pushing the fastest cores a bit faster. Most users assume it will damage the CPU, but in reality, only a few cores are under load at any time.

It's not extreme, so performance remains solid. I also noticed other options like Enhanced 1 - 4. Would you like to explore those?

This clarifies why benchmarking tools like Cinebench often drop significantly when all cores are active. I’d just stick with PBO. Personally, my typical core speed during a game (XP11) that uses 1 or 2 cores stayed near 4.1GHz—a modest gain. I haven’t tested the enhancer yet, so I’m not certain. I’m sure PBO made a small difference!

Enhancer levels 1 and 2 will be similar to standard boost frequencies. Levels 3 and 4 will show higher core boosts, where most performance gains occur. Few games rely heavily on a single core boost. If that's your goal, the default single-core boost is the quickest. -Therefore, you'd just reset the system back to normal settings and relax. SenseMi on certain ROG boards in the tweakers section (if memory allows today) offers Skew and Offset settings. Skew changes during boosting, while Offset alters or reduces all core boost clocks. All this depends on maintaining good CPU temperatures. Keep monitoring them overall.
