I've used an x5690 for years and also own a 5600X. I'm confident the 5600X completely defeats the x5690 in every way. I left my x5690 behind for a 3770K a few years ago, but she was quite a fighter. Lots of good and bad memories with that system, haha.

You're seeing over 40% better IPC and 20% quicker clock speeds. With added support for newer instruction sets and various optimizations, performance could nearly double across many tasks.
