Hey everyone, my girlfriend got a new laptop that won’t update or install programs because the C drive is full, no matter where she moves the installation folder. She has a 1TB HDD with 30GB already used on C and more than 900GB on D. I was thinking about doing a clean Windows install, but I’m not sure how to reactivate it since the OS came without an installation disk.

Typically you don't require a license because Windows 10 will activate itself automatically. However, if you prefer certainty, you can try a tool named ProduKey to obtain the license before performing a clean installation of Windows 10.

There could be a tag stick attached to the computer. Buying a fresh Windows version is always an alternative, though it can be frustrating and costly. I recognize there are various methods, maybe even ones that don’t require a key code. This isn’t something I’m familiar with.

He'll require a Windows setup from another storage device like a USB stick to accomplish this.

It should be possible using the native disk management utility.

I considered starting with a USB drive, though my main concern was getting Windows to activate without the product key.
