Gather additional details such as your specifications and the environment you're using. Generally, games may stutter when graphics settings are pushed too high. However, the newest 4060 might experience stutter due to VRAM being overwhelmed.

They usually aren't the issue, though it can vary by game, your system, and configurations. It might occur during updates or background processes. (I'm not sure, my machine is stable...) Also, even antivirus scans don't appear to lower my frame rates significantly. I might notice some background activity causing this.

Frame rates change often. That’s why media usually shares a typical, slightly lower average and a small margin. If you’re using a monitor that tracks refresh rate, the drops are rarely noticeable—about 99% of the time. Background processes can reduce frame rates, but I mainly focus on the game under heavy load. When your GPU is running near full capacity, like at 99%, you’ll see more fluctuations because it has little buffer left. This is similar to pushing VRAM to its limit. I try to cap my frame rates when it doesn’t affect the outcome, and it also helps keep the GPU cooler.

oh right, framerates fluctuate naturally, but i never allow it, so this is a thing i just don't experience - with very few exceptions, certainly not a couple of times in only 4 hours.... that would drive me mad to no end lol... ps: usually either 60/120/165fps, no vsync, no gsync, but fast sync! cause i hate screen tearing just as much as frame fluctuations

that's what you were thinking. It seems to only function with frames above your monitor's refresh rate. For instance, if you're getting 62fps but your monitor refreshes at 60hz, it works smoothly without tearing and with minimal input lag. Using VSync would likely cause more delay. Here are my Overwatch settings as an example: most features turned off except NVIDIA Reflex, and NVCP is set to fast sync. The frame rate stays around 164/165fps and doesn't tear. I also tried 330fps, but it didn't help much—since my refresh rate is only 165, the numbers are close but not ideal.
