My build is optiplex 9020 MT, i7 4790, rx 580 8gb, 8gb DDR3, and a 650W PSU (forgot name but it was recommended by a smart guy on youtube). Whenever i wanna play something like Gow4 my game is lagging a lot till the game loads and little FPS drops, same goes for fortnite i get a lot of FPS drops in it as well. On any game my fans would go crazy and spin on about 70-80% and the sound fans make is quite lou, if i use MSI afterburner to put it down to maybe 60% if the game is demanding my game would freeze and i would have to restart the PC. I was wondering if its a ram issue when it comes to FPS drops and if the fans are also a problem since its an office PC.
It’s reaching the absolute maximum temperature for the GPU. The fans are slowing down because it’s overheating. Using 8GB of RAM in that game will definitely cause problems. Running it on an HDD is also problematic. I’m hoping Windows has its own SSD running?
I believe I need to upgrade the RAM and since Windows runs on an HDD, I planned to install an SSD alongside the RAM. Games would stay on the SSD while Windows would use the HDD. I overlooked that increasing my game settings to medium, high or higher would cause those FPS drops. I assumed the fans wouldn’t spin that fast, but maybe I was mistaken.
Install windows on the SSD. This greatly improves performance. Your main problem is that your hard drive is too busy running both Windows and a game, which slows everything down. An SSD can handle this better. If you can't afford both upgrades, opt for a reliable 1TB SSD to run Windows and games. The SSD will act as virtual RAM, boosting speed even more. Avoid using the HDD for Windows.
Sure, I understand. I’m planning to get a 1TB SSD or more, add extra RAM, and consider letting my HDD go to someone else. Thanks for your advice!
