I’ve spent some time playing Grand Theft Auto V at lower graphics settings (around 25-30 frames per second), and I'm noticing a surprising amount of video memory still available. The same thing happens with Grand Theft Auto IV – even when everything is set to high, I still end up with about 1GB of unused video RAM, but the gameplay feels really sluggish. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it likely a bottleneck issue, and if so, are there any other solutions besides upgrading my hardware?

Specs:
CPU : Intel i3 4150 @ 3.5GHz
GPU : Nvidia GT 610 2GB
RAM : 12GB DDR3

Your graphics card—a 610—only has 2GB of VRAM, and that’s simply not enough horsepower for demanding games. Honestly, it doesn’t make sense to have that much memory on a card like this. For something like Grand Theft Auto V, you really need at least a GeForce GTX 630. The absolute minimum recommendation is an older NVIDIA 9800 GT, which typically scores around 463 in Passmark benchmarks—your 610 only manages about 293. If you’re aiming for high settings, though, you'll want to step up to a GTX 660, and that one also supports NVIDIA ShadowPlay.

Your graphics card—a 610—only has 2GB of VRAM, and that’s simply not enough horsepower for demanding games. The 610 isn’t really designed for gaming, and it's puzzling why they included so little memory on it. If you’re trying to play a game like Grand Theft Auto V, you’d be much better off with at least a 630. As a baseline, you should aim for a GPU similar to the NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT, which typically scores around 463 in Passmark benchmarks. Your 610 only manages about 293. To really run everything on High settings, you’ll need something like a GTX 660—and that one also supports ShadowPlay.
