So. I’m having trouble accessing my motherboard BIOS. The first thing that comes to mind is updating, but that feels a bit overwhelming. Anyone have any tips? (Also, I drained the CMOS battery and it didn’t work.) Before that, I installed a new M.2 SSD and ran Windows on it. There was another issue: once the SSD was in with my existing HDD (which still had Windows 10), my motherboard wouldn’t show the SSD in BIOS. That happened even after I updated Windows to the SSD. I tried connecting the SSD to different SATA ports, but switching it up when the system started might have caused the problem. After booting into the OS on the SSD, the drive was recognized by File Explorer, but I couldn’t enter BIOS. Now, when I connect the SSD, the system says to pick a boot drive even though none is selected. I’m really confused. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Edit: Fixing it involved draining the CMOS battery while the SSD was off.

Update your BIOS on your motherboard using a dedicated app. Most manufacturers provide such an application for this purpose. Verify your current BIOS version and download the appropriate file from your device’s manufacturer site. Install and flash it carefully, ensuring you match the version correctly. If you’re using a Gigabyte board, let me know which model so I can help identify it.

We share the same brand. Search for the app on the Gigabyte website. Download and install it on your PC, then check for the BIOS management tool. This Gigabyte application includes everything you need to update drivers and more. If you're unsure, look for "BIOS."
