I received my X470 late, possibly in Q3 last year... it seems I might not upgrade this side of 2021.
MSI's x570 models were disappointing. I still think some Asus options are great, though the rog crosshair viii formula feels a bit off. The waterblock only cools the VRM, not the chipset, and it seems to be quite costly for no clear reason. I mostly focused on MSI and Asus because of rumors about the x570, but I only really considered them after MSI. My budget is limited to around 300 euros (about 330 dollars), so I can't really afford the x570. I'm planning to look at the b550 instead. I also have a 3700x, not a 3300x. x470 boards aren't the best option... many makers skipped proper VRM and opted for larger heatsinks, which adds cost. You might end up paying extra for the SLI license (NVIDIA fee) if the board includes two PCIe x8 slots for CPU lanes. If the VRM is decent, they might have saved elsewhere—like using older audio chips or skipping USB 3.0 ports at 10GBps. There are many affordable and high-performing x570 boards available. MSI offers some excellent B450 models, though their x570 chipsets had some issues. Tomohawk and Unify models improved the situation. Gigabyte's B450 boards are decent now, except for the very cheapest versions which have many compromises. The 3700x model isn't demanding, so it doesn’t need top-tier VRM. In the spreadsheet, you’ll find satisfactory results with at least three checkmarks on the v1.5 sheet or two green marks on the v1.4 sheet (the default). Consider B550 boards—the main change is no fans and extra PCIe 3.0 lanes for M.2 slots and PCIe x1/x4 connectors (the graphics card and first M.2 slot still get PCIe 4.0). The B550s have VRMs comparable to or better than x570 boards, and many manufacturers updated them with newer audio options like ALC1200/1220 or added Wi-Fi and 2.5G Ethernet at a lower price.
