I understand 60 is generally fine, but performance drops when under load. Right now it's downloading a game from Steam. The i5 750 from the first generation has more fans inside than most PCs from that time would have. They usually reach about 62 briefly at a time. I'm just concerned about how it will handle stress.

Check if it's running in idle mode and which CPU cooler is installed so we can expand the discussion. Also, are you asking about the boot phase or after a prolonged OS session where you're just checking temperatures?

It hasn't been under pressure, it's simply been downloading over the last forty minutes. Intel stock cooler.

It's typical. The system you're running is quite old, and loading a big game will put a significant strain on it.

Loading games requires processing power. Even on limited connections (such as 6mbps), they consume around 10% of my 5600, which is raising temperatures further because the stock cooler isn’t handling it well.
