Hey everyone, today I worked on a new system or attempted one. It’s an x870 Tomahawk with 9800x3d, 32GB Trident Z5 6000 CL30. So far no successful posts. The first try got stuck at code 0E, probably due to outdated BIOS. Debug lights for CPU and DRAM went to flashing mode but the button doesn’t respond or give feedback—it just stays pushed in. I’m trying to get it to start flashing again. Does it finish now? Meanwhile, I’m seeing a post code 22, which seems related to memory. The CPU and DRAM debug lights are still active. Both sticks are in A2 and B2 by default. Placing one in A2 still gives code 22 and the computer shuts off after about a minute. Using the other stick in A1 produced a different code, but it also stops after a minute. I’m not sure what to do next.
Start by turning it on and letting it run for a while. For the first post, memory training might need several minutes. Besides that, make sure all power connections are secure, remove any additional components, leaving only the board, CPU, and RAM. You could also try re-seating the CPU and inspecting the pins to ensure they're not bent during installation.
Identified the issue. Newegg delivered incorrect RAM. It's an Intel XMP 3.0 ready-only model and isn't compatible with any AMD boards.
Correction. New ram did not solve the issue even though the current set is compatible. Red CPU and orange DRAM debug light on basically anytime the system is on whether the bios is flashing or attempting to boot, even without ram in the system. Ram is slotted in A2 B2 originally like the board suggests. I have tried all configurations possible. Any config in a2 or b2 give me post code 22, and any config in A1 of B1 give me EC post code. I have reseated ram what feels like a million times. I have attempted multiple flashes of different bios versions from the first one that supported the 9800x3d and all give me the same 22 code. I have reseated the cpu twice now and double checked that there are no missing pads or bent pins. I do not believe I have pressure issues on the cpu as I have tested loosened and tightened to what I believe is where it should be. I have reseated cables. All fans works and run, I get power to accessories like mouse and keyboard. I have tested two sets of ddr5 ram that are both supported by the mobo. I do not have access to additional motherboards or cpus to test whether the board or cpu is dead. Current config is x870 Tomahawk, 9800x3d, 16x2 F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5, 1000w Bequiet 12 pure power m?. I have never tried to seat a gpu as I cannot get the cpu to post.
Yes I still have warranty under the manufacturer, but I'm trying to figure out if it's something I can fix before having to wait months to get a new board or cpu.
