So at random, absolutely no correlation from anything else I was doing, My windows will stop, start beeping at every attempt to control the os (clicks, etc.), and become unresponsive until it either stops, or I restart my PC with the power button. It's pretty weird and I'm not sure what's causing it. It's been happening since November 2021 with several attempts to stop it, and three installations of windows. If I can't figure out what it is, I'll have no choice but to switch to Linux which I don't want to do yet. Now to clear some things up, I do have a generalized idea of what is causing this. Explorer.exe is the GUI for Windows and this bug is by no means new at all, however I cannot find any fix to it that has worked for me. I believe this to be the culprit to the problem, but I've installed windows several times previously so I also can't see that being it. Sound drivers are another potential issue, but I'm not convinced of that either since I've also tried re-installing those too. Does anybody know what may be causing this problem? To help with troubleshooting, here are my pc specs: CPU: Intel Core I9 9900KF (It is overclocked, 4.9GHz all core, I manually setup an infinite boost setting) AIO: BeQuiet! Pure Loop 240mm x 120mm GPU: GeForce RTX 3060 RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 4x8GB (32 GB, 3200 MHz) Motherboard: Asus Prime Z390-A Storage: 1TB Western Digital Black NVMe M.2(Boot Drive), 1TB Wester Digital Blue Sata SSD, 4TB Seagate Barracuda 4500 RPM HDD

Test with one RAM stick, run each separately in the machine to check for stability.

Avoid increasing the computer's speed settings while checking for issues; turn off overclocking and wait until the problem is fixed.

your board has received 21 bios updates over the last four years, so it’s a good idea to do the same.

I've attempted this, but nothing has changed. The device has been overclocked repeatedly throughout the process. I've completed all the BIOS updates. Your tone comes across as aggressive, and it's not helpful. If you can't be polite or respectful, please leave this forum. "You don't overclock a computer while trying to fix an issue." I was surprised to learn this. I didn't overclock it when the problem started. Just stop being rude and offer solutions. I've tried everything you suggested already.

These are just diagnostic suggestions and ideas not included in your original request. Please note any additional checks already performed so others are aware. Also, let me know if you need any adjustments to the tone or style of these responses to better match your expectations.

Currently, is the machine running at an overclocked speed?

It has been running at 4.9 GHz for its whole life. I’m trying to fix this problem and think it might not be a hardware issue, but something else could be causing it.

Hardware problems may lead to software freezes. When the operating system hits an unrecoverable situation due to being blocked by unresponsive hardware, you might experience a partial freeze—your mouse may still function but the OS remains stuck. This usually happens when the system can't proceed past a faulty component, such as a drive, USB device, or other external hardware that prevents proper communication. Often the OS generates errors to force itself into a dead end. To prevent these issues, consider reinstalling the OS, removing unnecessary hardware, and eliminating settings that could cause instability. Simplify the setup by reducing RAM, removing extra hardware, and avoiding overclocking until you identify the problematic element.

This would take months. The issue appears only occasionally, about once every few weeks or so. I don’t have much time for it, and since I think it’s a hardware problem, I’ll start by removing certain components. I’ve seen more of this since June 2021 after getting a new headset, which might be the cause. I can try swapping it for a different one to see if it resolves the problem, then move on to other tests. If not, I suspect RAM might be the issue—especially since it was replaced soon after the headset. I’m really unlikely to have RAM problems now, especially after completing an RMA with Corsair. If this is confirmed, I might have to give up my setup and quit this hobby, which I’ve been using for more than just occasional gaming. Let’s tackle simple fixes first before moving forward.
