In 2023, I installed a new build (4090, 13900k, 1300W PSU, 64gb RAM) and it has been performing excellently—running all games at maximum graphics settings. Recently, a very loud high-pitched noise began during gaming. At first, I assumed it was related to the GPU or coil whine, but it’s significantly higher in pitch and louder than usual. I tested various games, adjusted graphics, reduced frame rate, enabled v-sync, yet nothing resolved the issue. After replacing the 4090 with a 3080 (borrowed), the same high-pitched noise persists. I’m uncertain what to do next. Could this suggest a power supply unit problem?

Opening the case and starting the game – though pinpointing the source of the noise is challenging – I believe the power supply unit might be the issue.

Press your finger right on the PSU. It will assist in identifying the origin.
Make sure to avoid any spinning objects!
Could you tell me the precise model of your PSU?

I verified the Amazon reviews and found a video matching the noise my system makes.

It could indeed be the power supply unit. Try reducing its load to verify. Disconnect the GPU entirely and rely on the integrated graphics. Does the performance remain consistent?
