Switched from a dead AIO to a Noctua NH-D15 and checked the temperatures. CPU runs an i9-9900K, and during Overwatch 2 it stayed normal. In Starfield temps peaked at 85, with room temperature near 27.5°C.

This depends on the surrounding temperature, but I'd anticipate 70-75°C during testing, even less in games with an ambient of around 20°C. Using standard default CPU configurations.

I experienced consistent temperatures in demanding CPU games using my 9900k and NH-D15. I adjusted the voltage to 1.225v at normal speeds and lowered it to 60-65°C during intense play. Only the voltage change was made; no other modifications were done.

Mobo is an Asus Maximus XI Hero with Wi-Fi, likely using the XM1 chipset. It's a bit warm at 27.5–28°C—consider checking the cooling setup. Re-seating the heatsink or reapplying thermal paste might help if needed.

This is a very dumb question, how do you set it to stock speeds in the first place? May try this if nothing else.

You can adjust the voltage by using a lower voltage source or software tools designed for undervolting. Follow your device's specific instructions to safely reduce the output.

Great! You adjusted the voltage to what I described. If it still doesn’t work at 1.225V, try increasing it slightly to 1.25 or 1.26 and see if that stabilizes things. For consistent performance, aim for a stable range around 1.38–1.40V on ASUS HERO boards, especially considering temperature changes.

Typically, though it's important to mention that certain boards allow MCE by default—which is often inefficient and forces the CPU to receive excessive voltage for minimal clock improvement.
