They remain unchanged. Drivers will refresh during your initial boot. Windows 10 licensing operates digitally—creating an ID for your hardware setup, allowing normal use unless you modify essential components such as the CPU or motherboard. Using a Microsoft account simplifies things, as the license ties to your account and activates automatically upon login. You also have the option to perform a clean install whenever needed. A fresh install is possible at any time, though I haven't personally verified its effectiveness. From a technical standpoint, Microsoft might prefer using the Reset or Refresh features introduced in Windows 8 over a full reinstall, but this seems feasible. This applies only when you're worried about physical intruders accessing your device. If your computer stays at home all the time, it doesn't really matter... and for laptops the same holds true unless you store valuable information there or risk it joining a botnet. Still, it's not accurate—hackers might not focus on your data directly but could still use your machine to build a botnet or encrypt it for ransom. They don’t need to specifically target your PC; outdated security updates can leave you vulnerable just by browsing certain sites, as seen with WannaCry.

Avoid using outdated Windows versions—they carry security risks that remain unpatched and can be easily exploited. The safest approach is to keep your system offline from the internet. While hackers often focus on large organizations, many viruses like Cryptoviruses affect anyone. Regular security updates are essential; skipping them leaves your system vulnerable to known weaknesses. Although you can access files using livelinux, controlling the main system through a network remains risky if patches aren’t applied. Developers sometimes embed backdoors in their code to exploit these gaps. Win 10 isn’t expected to consume significantly more resources than Windows 7, and in some cases it may even perform better. Newer drivers in Win 10 function much more efficiently than in older versions. Avoid using Windows 8 at all costs; it’s outdated and less secure compared to modern releases.

I seriously dont understand where Luke was coming from. It's been demonstrated multiple times that Windows 10 is a better gaming platform than any other version of Windows. It has the best support and is straight up faster (albeit by a small margin). When you combine that with the fact all the telemetry from Windows 10 has been backported to 8 I genuinely dont see any reason why running 8 over 10 would be beneficial. I think it's just a case of "I'm running 8 because I think it makes me look smart" rather than any real benefit. Also Luke was incredibly condescending too. All that nonsense about people not running 8 for long enough to understand the benefits? Yeah, no. I've had every new version of Windows running on my PC on release day since XP (actually before release day in the case of Vista and 7) and once I'm upgraded I stick with it no matter what. I'm FULLY aware of the benefits and pitfalls of every version of Windows and my conclusion still stands. There is ZERO benefit to running 8 over 10.

Was wanacry part of a website or needed a download to activate? It worked well with the latest browser and adblocker settings, which usually block most threats. It has been reliable for over two years. After securing your system and backing up important files, it’s safe to use. Don’t give someone full control unless necessary—most people won’t want that. Remote access and file checks are practical, even with the latest security patches. Zero-day exploits won’t help if you’re careful.

Wanacry spread via a minor flaw. The main condition was someone on your network had been compromised, either by a harmful download or another network connection. You might be impacted without taking any action. Even simple actions like browsing a site could lead to infection if unnoticed.
