You'd likely need a fresh Windows installation if you remove the SSD and GPU from your current build. The existing copy came with an HP PC from 2009, so compatibility would be a concern.

I strongly doubt it came with one; if it did, I have no idea where to find it. Maybe I’ll have to purchase a copy.

I believe HP included Windows in their recovery tool, meaning they need a license for that version. If you didn’t receive a key, consider reaching out to HP.

It appears the information is stored in the registry under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion. The value "DigitalProductId" begins at position 52 with an offset of 52.

if you are keeping an ssd and it has windows on it already then you don't. you shouldn't either if there is a non-oem key on your computer. you COULD pirate it since you (Technically) own it. (at your own risk)

I suggested he could if he wished, perhaps you could just retrieve the key from your registry.
