You're right. It looks like it's setting up a virtual environment to run an operating system. However, the speed isn't quite the same as using it directly on the hardware, such as with a USB drive and installation on the main disk.

For an Arch-based setup, consider using a more intuitive distribution like Manjaro unless you want to deeply explore Linux. Otherwise, the additional work isn't worthwhile.

However, other distributions like Manjaro or EndevourOS also offer Arch-based options that work well. Note that in December Arch included its own automated script—just run "archinstall" from the live disc.
