Hi, I’m just switching to a new motherboard and CPU. Do I really need an older CPU to boot into BIOS and flash it? I have an R5 1600 ready, but I don’t want to spend time figuring this out. For context, the board I’m upgrading to is the B550m AORUS PRO - P.

This board supports a Q-flash function. You can refresh the BIOS without a CPU present. https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B55...-rev-10#kf

The Ryzen 5 1600 doesn't work with B550 motherboards. Support is limited to third generation models and newer.

My B550 board also experiences BIOS flashback, and I just updated it to the latest version before installing my CPU. It only takes around 15 minutes, which is a reasonable way to check the motherboard and PSU. You can configure it and have it running while you unpack the remaining components. Alternatively, you could use this time to restock your water bottle at
