My grandparents had an HP Pavilion Desktop with a 570-p555ng motherboard running a Willow 2 chipset with AM4. The HP site says only three processors fit this board, but I’m not sure if Ryzen 2000 or newer works. Since the AM4 supports BIOS updates, it might still be possible. A Ryzen 2000 should work enough for upgrading to Windows 11, as long as the processor is compatible. Have anyone checked if Ryzen 2000 runs on the HP Willow 2?

There is no BIOS update available. These devices are even Pre-Ryzen 1000 models and lack any Ryzen compatibility. It's impossible to install a Ryzen processor in them.

That's unfortunate, I actually discovered this thing earlier and it had already been hoped for (even though it's the first generation of this board and they have the second). Well, I guess I don't need to try it at all.

Despite Ryzen CPUs being compatible with the AM4 socket, they require BIOS support in the system settings. If HP hadn’t updated their BIOS to recognize Ryzen processors, those would fail to function. You might try tools such as Rufus to generate a Windows 11 installer for older PCs that don’t meet the latest specs, though this removes any assurance of future compatibility. Even if it functions now, an upcoming update could cause issues later. Windows 10 will continue receiving security patches until October 2025, so there’s no immediate concern at this time. By then, replacing the whole system would likely become necessary.

I need these specifics because I don’t want to upgrade to Windows 11 with incompatible hardware. Back in 2020 there was a BIOS update that fixed some issues. https://support.hp.com/de-de/drivers/sel...p-255656-1 That section still works, so it shouldn’t be removed in 2025. It would be a shame—especially for sustainability. Of course you could list it on eBay, but unless someone actually wants it, most people still prefer Windows.

They believe every OEM PC is identical, probably thinking all are the same.
