The opposite idea is that Microsoft had pledged to provide Windows 10 updates for another five years following the release of Windows 11. By the time Windows 10 support ceased, and if system builders ceased supplying parts for the 7th generation in 2018, it would amount to roughly seven years of operation on that machine. The only group likely to experience a sudden increase in hardware sales would be those driven by FOMO.

Even then, users could still run Windows 10 after update support ended. Moreover, based on what I understand, activation is unlikely to end completely, since searches indicate you can still activate Windows 7. Even if Microsoft stops the servers, it’s probable someone has already discovered a method to activate it, similar to what was done with XP.

In any case, there’s nothing in my mind to suggest Microsoft will act differently than they have over the past two decades.
