No, you can't downgrade your laptop running Windows 10 just because you bought a Windows 8.1 key. The operating systems are separate and won't work together.
I really miss playing that childhood game on Steam, but it won’t run on Windows 10 because of a security block. I’ve tried all the fixes and nothing helped. Maybe it’s time to upgrade my laptop or desktop to an 8.1 system just for this game.
What game is it? Good chance there is a community patch or something that makes it work.
Have you attempted configuring the games .exe to operate in 8.1 compatibility mode?
Romance of the Three Kingdoms II is out of the question. There seems to be only around four players in the west who have tried it. It isn’t even released in English. I’m still getting comfortable with Japanese for different reasons, but also to enjoy the game. It had a version for PS2, while the Steam edition provides much more content, which is why I’m putting in this effort.
You can install both Windows 8 and a GPU-enabled virtual machine. This approach saves money by avoiding a new computer purchase. If you prefer, you can use a dedicated machine. A standard Dell tower with a 4th generation i5 processor is more than sufficient for this game. It comes with 8GB RAM and an SSD priced around $70 to $80.
