Yes, that's correct. Building a PC without handling the motherboard would be extremely challenging. Make sure to avoid touching any components with conductive materials once the system is turned on.

It’s likely safe to handle, but avoid causing damage. Whenever you can, pick it up from the sides. Using an air cooler and connecting it to the case before inserting the board provides a comfortable grip.

When using an air cooler, you can place it outside the case—typically positioning the motherboard inside the motherboard tray—and then mount the M.2 drive in the case while holding the CPU cooler.

This keeps the system unpowered yet grounds the entire case, helping discharge static when you touch it. Ideally avoid this setup in dry conditions (low humidity) or near static sources like fluffy carpets. Otherwise, it's acceptable as long as you handle things carefully. Gently work with the components, and handling by heatsinks or sides is usually just as straightforward.
