I purchased a Windows 8 OEM disc during my first PC build. Now I’m planning to assemble a new machine and need help transferring or reactivating the key so it works properly. Can you assist with that?
The original manufacturer's copy isn't movable. But you can still utilize the SSD running the operating system on the updated device.
It's kind of luck of the draw. It can work, but it's not certain that it will.
I might be mistaken, but if it's OEM Windows 8 (NOT 8.1), you can transfer it to another device you own after removing it from the previous one. It seems Microsoft took away the personal use license for 8.1. I've been researching this over the past few days and so far I think I have a clear picture. Edit: The retail version would allow moving it to a new PC.
It doesn't matter. Windows 10 will become available in 2-3 months, and even those with cracked or pirated Windows 7 & 8 versions won't need to worry.
Review this claim sent to Ars Technica from Microsoft... If a gadget was flagged as fake or unlicensed before the change, it will stay marked that way after the update. This article has been revised to indicate you won’t receive an official Windows 10 copy. http://arstechnica.com/information-techn...ine-users/
