No Wi-Fi adapter used inside a particular home
We made identical PCs about three years ago using the same Wi-Fi card—a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485. Six months later, my cousin began experiencing issues. The adapter would initially work for a short time, then gradually lose connection until he encountered errors like "err_timed_out" and eventually lost all access. He switched to a USB TP-Link adapter, which resolved the problem. Recently, I brought my own PC into his room and noticed similar problems after five hours: the adapter’s usage dropped to zero every few seconds, causing Chrome to crash and the Wi-Fi connection to vanish entirely. After six hours, the router stayed on but the adapter showed 0% usage and refused to improve, even when searching online. Drivers were updated, yet this issue persists. I suspect interference might be affecting the adapter, though I’m unsure how to test it. We haven’t moved the PCs to another room; they’re still in the same space where the adapter failed initially. My phone’s Wi-Fi works perfectly, the modem signal is strong, and there’s no nearby microwave or congestion from other networks. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Short summary: Two PCs built with identical parts suffered intermittent Wi-Fi failure six months later. Now I’m seeing the same issue in his room after five hours of use.
