No video output detected from the RX 9060 XT. Tested with two GPUs and two motherboards.
Hello, after years away from PC gaming, I finally decided to assemble a brand-new gaming setup. But during the process, I encountered a significant problem. Right now, I’m quite frustrated and hoping someone can assist me in getting my new machine up and running.
System details:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
- RAM: 32GB Crucial Pro OC DDR5-6000
- Motherboard: ASRock B850I Lightning WiFi
- PSU: Seasonic Focus SFX 750W (80+ Gold)
- GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 9060 XT Nitro+ (16GB)
- SSD: Samsung 980 NVMe M.2 (1TB)
Issue description: After installing the RX 9060 XT, the PC starts up with fans and RGB lights, but no video output appears from the graphics card. All integrated GPU connections are disabled. When I try to boot into BIOS via the integrated GPU, only a blank symbol shows. If I install a separate discrete GPU, it works perfectly—Windows runs smoothly with updated drivers. Even an older AMD Radeon R9 380 functions without issues. I’ve already spoken to my retailer who sent back a new GPU and motherboard, suspecting a defect, but the problem remains.
Troubleshooting attempts:
- Updated BIOS & reset CMOS
- Checked all BIOS options (BAR settings, decoding, ASPM, etc.)
- Re-seated GPU multiple times
- Verified power connections
- Tested HDMI and DisplayPort cables
- Ran with a minimal system (just one RAM stick, no SSD)
Please let me know if you can help—any advice would be greatly appreciated! I’m really stuck and would love to resolve this.
Looking at these SFF components, I see they’re likely using a riser cable connection. Cards might struggle to communicate properly with the board if this isn’t set up correctly. Have you adjusted the BIOS settings to manually specify a generation instead of relying on auto? Trying a lower generation, such as Gen 2 or 3, could also help.
I can almost eliminate drivers. I checked the system several times without an SSD, and the issue appeared even with brand new components. I paid special attention to the UEFI configurations prior to installing any new parts when I replaced the motherboard. Additionally, I cleared the SSD before installing the second motherboard.
Tested this for about thirty minutes. The static '_' cursor disappears after about 5 minutes and turns into a black screen. After this, nothing happens. One thing to point out however, during the '_' phase I can shut down the system by just pressing the power button. In the blackscreen phase I have to hold the power button for a few seconds, so there is defnitely something going on, but the system still won't post.
Launch the computer and continue pressing the Del key while connecting the monitor power cord and then reinserting the power cable.
